Start with the same affected area

Tell each contractor which rooms and materials were observed, whether water remains, and what is known about the source. Ask each to identify areas that need further investigation rather than assuming visible damage is the full scope. Keep your insurer’s documentation requirements separate from the contractor’s work authorization.

Compare the work and charge basis

Ask whether the proposal includes standing-water removal, moisture assessment, drying setup and return visits, material removal, disposal, cleaning and reconstruction. Ask whether equipment is charged by day, whether monitoring is included, and how changes are authorized. Do not assume a drying quote includes replacing cabinets, flooring or wall finishes.

Understand the cost drivers

Water source, affected material, access, hidden moisture, disposal and equipment duration can change cost. A numeric Boise price range is not supplied here because a trustworthy property-specific scope is needed. Ask for the assumptions and exclusions in writing, including what happens if inspection reveals more damage.

Confirm responsibilities before signing

Identify who stops the leak, handles any permits, pays for disposal, returns for monitoring and repairs finishes. Ask for contractor licensing, insurance and applicable experience directly. Coverage decisions and reimbursement belong to your insurer; a contractor estimate does not guarantee either.

Prepare the relevant assessment

Use the comparison worksheet while discussing your quote. Ask the team to explain any missing line and whether repair is included or separately contracted.
