City enquiry checklist

  1. Prepare the physical address and parcel reference privately.
  2. Describe the proposed repair, elevation or drainage changes.
  3. Ask Boise Planning and Development Services which floodplain review or documents apply.
  4. Record the city response and identify who supplies the required plan before agreeing to permanent work.

Keep an unresolved requirement separate from the cleanup proposal.

Use the property, not the neighborhood

Two properties can have different conditions. Use the full physical address and parcel information when asking the city about floodplain designation and your repair proposal. Indoor plumbing damage does not automatically mean the property lies in a floodplain; a city-wide map is orientation, not a permit decision.

Prepare the proposed work

Describe whether you are replacing finishes, changing floor elevations, altering drainage or rebuilding a damaged portion. Boise’s November 2024 checklist describes floodplain application site-plan information, including drainage features and relevant boundaries and elevations. The city determines which documents apply to the proposed project.

Keep cleanup and approval questions separate

Initial safety and water removal do not resolve every rebuilding requirement. Ask the contractor to distinguish cleanup, drying and permanent repair, and identify who checks city requirements. Request written responsibilities; do not assume a quote includes permit administration or an engineering determination.

Prepare the relevant assessment

Discuss cleanup scope through the quote number; direct parcel and permit questions to the City of Boise. Keep the proposed repair and address ready for both conversations.
